Hands off ACC

Ooh, that's gotta hurt! Cuts to ACC will hurt more... (ads shown at Wellington Sevens, Feb 2010):

National’s attack on ACC – it’s no accident

The National Government continues its attack on ACC, claiming that there is a costs ‘blow-out’. They have invented a 'crisis' around ACC so they can open it up to private sector insurance companies, just as they did in 1999.

Take action! Email ACC Minister Nick Smith and tell him to get his hands off our priceless accident compensation scheme.

If the Government is allowed to continue it will soon open up more than just the work account to competition. Privatisation will destroy the scheme and before long we will be back to paying insurance premiums based on the risks of your job, or your choice of pastimes. It's not fair to pay higher levies just because you work in farming or forestry or building, or because you go fishing, or tramping, or ride a scooter to work. The least well-off and most vulnerable will end up paying more.

ACC is the world’s best accident and injury compensation scheme and something New Zealand should be proud of. Opening it up to private companies will make it more not less expensive to run. It will make it slower and more difficult for injury victims to get payment, and it will not get people back to work quicker.

Don't be fooled by National's public relations spin about ACC. Read what the experts have been saying. There is no costs ‘blow-out’ and no crisis.

Have a look at the factsheet below. It will explain point-by-point how National is misleading the public to think ACC needs reformed. It doesn’t, and here’s why:
